Steps that help put the pieces together
Below is the system we use, and which we recommend clients use, to get their repairs or rebuild going.
1. Establish whether your home is a repair or rebuild
We recommend an EQ-East Initial Assessment. This report will establish where your file is being held, saving you a lot of time as EQC and your insurance company do pass files back and forth.
2. Establish whether your Claim File is to remain with EQC or your insurance company
Our Initial Assessment will confirm whether EQC or your insurer should be dealing with your file. These organisations may be passing your file back and forth.
3. Opt Out of the EQC or Insurance Company PMO. This doesn't mean you are Opting Out of the EQC repair process but only out of Fletchers Earthquake Repair program (EQR).
4. Nominate 8D Project Management as your representative in the repair or rebuild process.
Unlike the giant PMOs, we work for YOU. You are our client, not EQC and not your insurer. We work to ensure you get your full entitlement under your insurance policy.
5. Relax and take a breath.
You are in good hands. Your home will be repaired or rebuilt professionally and well but this process won't necessarily be fast. Patience is paramount in obtaining the best result. From my experience working for insurance companies, I know that they often use a principal called "shaking the apple tree" -- they assume that over 90% of claimants will 'fall from the tree' ie won't put up much of a fight. These claims are then settled for between 50-70% of the home or property owners' full entitlement. With patience and persistence you can avoid being part of this unfortunate 90%.
