How we can help
Every Christchurch property owner is only too well aware how flawed the EQC and insurance assessment processes have proven to be. This has left property owners unsure how accurate their reports are and how the damage to their property should be repaired, or even if their home should be repaired rather than rebuilt. However, we can provide the information you need about the damage to your home, thereby giving back control over your home and the repair or rebuild process.
EQ-East Solutions Ltd EQ-East Solutions provides a number of services to home or property owners who want more informaiton than that provided by EQC and/or their insurer. The services we provide include but are not limited to:
Initial Assessment Report -- $750 per property. This report provides you with all the basic information you need to decide your path forward. In most cases the cost of this report is covered by the Red Cross earthquake grant. It includes:
Damage Assessments (Second Opinion) -- This report is very helpful if you feel EQC or your insurer has not correctly recorded all your earthquake damage. We inspect your dwelling, take photographs, measure floor levels with our advanced equipment and record these on a floor plan. We then provide a report with all this information. This report does NOT cost the damage because if you home is being repaired by EQC or your insurer's PMO, cost is not an issue. What may be debated is the scope of works (record of damage) and the repair strategy. This service costs $15 per m2 for area under roof.
Full Repair Costing Reports -- includes current up-to-date prices. If you are arguing with your insurer for a better settlement offer, we can cost the damage for you. If you have a scope of works you are happy with or if you already have one of our Damage Assessments, we can cost the damage. Our cost analysis system includes state of the art software and regular price updates from Rawlinson's, contractors and insurers. This report is usually ready within a week. This service costs $5 per m2 for area under roof.
New Build Reports -- We provide a fully costed 'like-for-like' report to current building codes. This report is required if your house have been assessed as a rebuild by your insurer but you want to be sure of getting your full entitlement under your insurance policy. We have heard of insurers offering only$1,200 per m2 for a rebuild but this is far l even government recommendations and most people are entitled to far more than this under their policy. Our new build report puts you back in the driver's seat in negotiations. This service costs $15 per m2.

- Floor level resport and floor sketch plan with levels recorded. EQC and some insurance companies do not do floor levels correctly although this is critical information in deciding, how or even whether, to repair homes. Habitability Reports
If your insurance company has declined your request for accommodation when you feel that your home is not habitable but they disagree, we can help. We can conduct a full health and safety assessment of your dwelling and provide you with a report. Should your home fail the habitability assessment you can take a copy to your insurance company and outline your concerns. The cost of this assessment and report is $5 per m2 incl. GST of dwelling under roof. We heard back from one insurance company who said our habitability report was the best they had ever seen.
Floor Level Checks
If you think your floor is out of level, you can make sure with EQ-East. We have the world's most advanced and accurate floor level measuring equipment. Our CompuLevel ®™ equipment has led industry standard for over 10 years. We provide you with a sketch plan of your dwelling with precise floor levels marked. The cost of our floor level assessment is $5 per m2 incl. GST for ground level of dwelling.
Damage Breakdowns for each earthquake event
Alternatively, if you are not insured for full replacement value and hold a policy that is limited to a certain amount, to enable the maximum payment from EQC and your insurance company, you need to identify what damage occurred in each earthquake event. We can assist by apportioning the damage to each particular event. To do this we gather the evidence needed to establish the facts; assessing the damage caused by each event and taking statements from you and anyone else who can independently verify damage within the relevant time frames. This report is comprehensive and excellent value at $5 per m2 incl. GST. If your house is insured for full replacement cost your insurance company will do the apportionment for EQC on your behalf.
Accurate Dwelling Measurements
Is your government valuation based on the correct gross floor area of your home? You would be surprised to know how many GV's are based on incorrect dwelling sizes.
The government will consider increasing their offer to buy your home if you can prove that the actual size of your home is greater than that stated on the GV. For $5 per m2 incl. GST we do the following:
• Accurately measure the foot print of your home and outbuildings using laser measuring devices.
• Provide a footprint plan of all buildings.
• Issue a certificate declaring the accurate m2 size of all buildings on site.
Administration Services
To assist our clients through these trying and difficult times which often put them in situations which are out of their comfort zone, we are able to work through the process with you in the following ways:
• Act as support in meetings with EQC and / or your insurance company.
• Follow-up claims, calling EQC on your behalf and keeping a log of contacts.
• Write letters to various entities including EQC, Ministers and Members of Government at all levels and insurance companies, detailing your specific situation and needs.
The charge for these services is $140 per hr incl. GST or part thereof in increments of 6 mins.

Our payment terms are 7 days from invoice or on completion of the report.
